With regard to health and safety, our overriding objectives are:

• to safeguard the health and safety of our employees and others who may be affected by company activities
• to ensure the safety and integrity of all plant and the environment

With this in mind, Cape was one of the first companies in the industrial services sector to obtain OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).

We are continually reviewing our safety strategies and looking for ways to improve them throughout the organisation. We review our objectives regularly and set improvement targets. We also operate an Integrated Management System (IMS) which includes controls of all aspects of health and safety. Since the introduction of the IMS, there have been constant improvements in our safety performance, demonstrating effective controls and our commitment to safety.

Safety achievement highlights include:

• AFR (Accident frequency rate) of 0.10 per 100,000 man hours in 2007
• AFR more than halved since 2002

Throughout the world, we have won a number of safety awards. Examples include in the UK in 2006 we were awarded the British Safety Council Sword of honour for the third time in 5 years. In the same year, we also received the British Safety Council's 5-Star Award for health and safety for the second year in succession. In 2006 in Saudi Arabia we received SABIC Outstanding Supplier Recognition Award while in 2007 in Abu Dhabi we were declared Gasco HSE Contractor of the year.

Other awards for our excellent safety record include: Supplier of the Year from Alcan with special recognition for Health and Safety and also Scottish Power's Overall Best Contractors' Safety Performance. Tangeable proof of Cape's proactive safety culture has been the achievement in 2007 in the Philippines of 3,000,000 man hours without a lost time injury, PHC team , Shell Malampaya project while on Sakhalin Island, Russia for Sakhalin Energy LNG 5,000,000 man hours were completed without a lost time injury.
