In 2006, Cape put in place a Trust to compensate those who have suffered from asbestos related diseases as a result of Cape’s historical activities. To date, this Trust has paid out over £30m to those who have become ill or to their dependents.
The Trust was set up via a Scheme of Arrangement ('the Scheme') approved by the High Court and is separately funded, with its funds being administered by two independent trustees. Cape provides “top-up” payments into the Trust to make sure that there are sufficient funds for legitimate claimants to be properly compensated.
Cape is committed to an independent and responsible approach to dealing with the issue of asbestos related disease so that those individuals affected may have the peace of mind that there will always be adequate compensation.
